FB #9: New Show Format

Today it is so easy to make a video and it only takes a couple of clicks to make it available to everyone online.  I think this is great for the fashion industry, because things need to be seen on the body to see the movement and idea of merchandise.  Videos are so effortless to watch, but can convey deep emotions.  This video here is showcasing some models.  It is titled "Committed" and takes you to a mental institute with structured faced patients in constricting white outfits.  All the walls are white and all of the clothes are white.  Everyone is supposed to look uniform like patients at a hospital; however, these are successful models, each of which have distinctive looks that stand out and easily differentiate them from the others.

FB #8: Lookbooks!!

I do not look at lookbooks often but when I do, it is only to get inspiration and ideas.  I want to see looks having no idea what designer or price point it is, that way I am not bias just because I know it is expensive.  Therefore, I usually do not watch the ones that are all of one designers collection.  I also thing it is much better when they are videos that don't require any clicking through.  The one I have posted here is great in my opinion.  I love these girls look, and the whole story they put together is entertaining and sexy.

FB #7: Trunk ShowVisit Ferragamo.com

Ferragamo had an online trunk show for its Autumn/Winter '13 Collection. Model Lily Kwong is wearing all of the pieces.  There is also a digital model you can style yourself like a paper doll! This allows you to mix-and-match digitally to find the perfect outfit for you! It's so fun I literally spent about 35 minutes putting together my favorite outfit.  I wish I could post it here but I could not copy the image :(  I think this is an amazing idea, and one that all designers should try because it seems as if everything is going digital these days! Here is the link to the online Ferragamo Trunk Show, Enjoy :)

FB #6: Runway Video!!

The Saint Laurent Spring 2014 Ready to Wear show was dazzling!! I love how this video captures the essence of Saint Laurent.  My favorite outfit was the black and pink sequined top with the brown animal print skirt.  I liked some of the commentary in the background. However, I'm not sure if I agree on how practical this line is but then again this didn't show the entire collection.  I liked how each comment was from someone different so we get differing viewpoints from men and women of different ages.

FB #5: Retail Windows!!

In the windows of New York's finest retail stores, red was a recurring theme. Because winter is approaching there is obviously a ton of black and dark neutral colors, but this flash of red was an exciting surprise! I love it because it's sexy and bold. If you want to go all out try the red Mulberry suit, and if you want to keep it understated try throwing a red bag over any neutral outfit!

Comfortable in His Snakeskin

Roberto Cavalli, spring 2014.Vittorio Zunino Celotto/Getty Images Roberto Cavalli, spring 2014.
Just before Milan Fashion Week, Roberto Cavalli released an autobiography detailing his early childhood traumas and his rise as a self-made designer who never really even learned how to sketch professionally. The book is called “Just Me!”
Milan Fashion Week
Coverage from in and around the Milan shows.
Anyone familiar with Mr. Cavalli’s embrace of animal prints and sexy dresses over the decades might wonder why he did not call it “Just Snakeskin!” He has perfected that reptilian glamour girl look to such a degree that his spring collection shown on Saturday, while familiar territory, seemed especially good in that it was almost a send-up. The stage was like an old Hollywood film, with stage lights and mirrors at the backdrop that reflected the models as they came out in glittering silver movie star gowns. One was tinged with pink at the hem and most had some sort of snakeskin theme, with python prints and or sequins and chains placed to create a snakeskin pattern. It’s just him!
Stella Jean, spring 2014.Giuseppe Aresu/Associated Press  Stella Jean, spring 2014.
Earlier, Stella Jean, a young Italian-Haitian designer whose career has been propelled by the local Who’s On Next competition, got another boost from Giorgio Armani, who offered his theater for her show. Ms. Jean, a former model, combines elements from different cultures to create ball gowns and suits in bright globally sourced textiles, so that you might find a chartreuse skirt with large zebras embroidered in sequins, or a T-shirt with the image of an Italian movie poster, or a dress printed with papayas and coconuts.
The designs seemed out of place with everything else going on at Milan Fashion Week, but it’s also the sort of look that will appeal to people who dress to be noticed, and that includes most of the audience here.
